Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology situated on the 3rd floor of Gandhi Medical College, is one of the oldest department to offer postgraduate course in the discipline in central India.
Department has contributed significantly during the aftermath of Bhopal Gas Disaster of 1984 under the able leadership of Late Prof. Dr. Heeresh Chandra. Apart from undergraduate and postgraduate teaching department offers various medicolegal services like autopsy, examination of sexual assault, age estimation, injury assessment, crime scene investigation etc. we are conducting about 3000 autopsies and about 500 various medicolegal cases annually.
Department of Forensic Medicine acts as a referral center for complicated medicolegal cases for expert opinion. We have fully equipped modular UG lab as per NMC norms, Histopathology lab, digital x-ray machine for Forensic radiology, and state of the art Museum of Forensic Medicine which is one of the best in country.
Under the digital initiatives we are reporting all medicolegal cases and autopsy cases online through MEDLEAPR software since 2019. We have also established a Video Conferencing set up for providing Tele Evidence to various courts of law.
Department also provides specialized training courses to judicial officers, medical officers and police.
